Advancing shared goals: National Nonprofit Day and National Black Business Month

As August 17th approaches, we are preparing to celebrate National Nonprofit Day and the profound impact of organizations like yours. The backbone of thriving communities is sometimes the dedicated efforts of organizations committed to positive change; nonprofits, in particular, play an indispensable role in addressing societal needs, advocating for important causes and enriching lives.
This August also marks National Black Business Month, a parallel celebration that highlights community building and economic empowerment. This month-long observance recognizes and supports Black entrepreneurs and businesses, which have historically been pillars of their communities, fostering economic growth, creating jobs and building generational wealth.
How can nonprofits and Black-owned businesses partner?
Collaboration between nonprofits and Black-owned businesses is extremely meaningful too. When both sectors are driven by a desire for social good and economic equity, their combined efforts are a potent force for positive change within communities.
For instance, Black-owned businesses can play a key role as sponsors of nonprofit initiatives by offering financial support or in-kind donations that help advance shared goals. Businesses can create their own Peer-to-Peer Fundraising pages to encourage their patrons to donate to a worthy cause. Businesses with a physical location can display a Text-to-Donate code at the checkout counter or high-traffic areas like the bathroom, while online businesses can feature a "nonprofit of the month" donation link on their site.
Conversely, nonprofits can also support Black-owned businesses by partnering for services like catering or marketing, or for their catering needs, which in turn directly boosts local economic growth. By doing so, nonprofits help ensure the success of small businesses, especially those founded by individuals from historically marginalized communities. Access to education, business loans and professional development is key to fostering long-term equity.
Many nonprofit organizations are already working to support Black-owned businesses, which makes it even more important to stand behind nonprofits during this time of uncertainty and political challenge.
Today, we are proud to share three such nonprofits that embody the economic impact and support of equity that National Black Business Month is all about, using Give Lively’s digital fundraising technology. Explore ways to get involved, support these causes, and contribute to the ongoing work of organizations that are truly making a difference.
