Together let’s celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month, from September 15 to October 15, and recognize the histories, cultures and contributions of Americans whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.

The heritage month starts on the 15th to acknowledge the independence day anniversaries of  Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua, all of which are on the 15th. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September 18, respectively.

Contrary to the offensive and erroneous rhetoric of the current U.S. administration, the United States has always been home to, and benefitted from the contributions of, people of Hispanic heritage.

“Hispanic Heritage Month provides an additional opportunity to explore the incredible impact Latinas and Latinos have had on the United States for generations,” reads the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Latino. “The Latino presence in America spans centuries, predating Spain’s colonization of what is now part of the United States, and they have been an integral part of shaping our nation since the Revolutionary War.”
