Why am I not able to donate to some nonprofit organizations?

A nonprofit organization is able to receive donations through Give Lively technology if it is:

  • classified as a Give Lively–eligible IRS foundation type
  • in good standing with the IRS and the California Attorney General’s Registry of Charities and Fundraisers.

What does it mean when a nonprofit is not in good standing with the California Attorney General’s Registry of Charities and Fundraisers?

When a charitable organization that is required to submit timely, complete, required filings and/or fees to the California Attorney General's Office fails to do so, its status on the California Attorney General's Registry of Charities and Fundraisers is listed as “Delinquent." If the delinquency is not remedied, the organization’s registry status is further changed to “Suspended" and/or “Revoked.”

Importantly, these requirements are applicable to all U.S. nonprofits, not just those headquartered in California. Learn about California's nonprofit governance and delinquency laws.
