Create discounted or free/complimentary event tickets

Our Event Ticketing technology does not allow for discount or promo codes right now, but there's a way to work around this if you plan to offer reduced prices or comps to a large number of attendees or to receive a high volume of offline sales.

At present, our Event Ticketing technology does not allow for discount or promo codes.

That being said, if you intend to reduce ticket prices for -- or offer comps/freebies to -- a large assortment of select attendees, or you expect to receive a high volume of offline sales, consider creating a duplicate event page through which to process special tickets and manage donor information manually added to your Give Lively fundraising data.

Important note: This won't be necessary if the entire event is free; just don't set a ticket price at all for everyone. It also may not be necessary if you're offering free tickets to a particular verifiable group, such as students or young people; set the ticket price for them as free but choose prices for everyone else according to desired categories and tiers.

The best approach to using a duplicate event page is when you may wish to offer reduced rates or comps at your discretion. In this case, do not to share the link to the duplicate event page and instead process special tickets by entering collected attendee information directly yourself. If this is your plan, please keep in mind this important information, especially this: If you are logged in to your Give Lively account, you must log out and use each person’s email address to ensure that any donation is associated with the attendee and that tickets are sent directly to them. Alternatively, particularly for free/complimentary tickets, you can direct all email receipts to your own internal email address and then send out something custom made that reflects the reduced or waived ticket price.

Again, be sure not to share the link to this duplicate event page -- the link doesn’t appear on tickets sent through our platform -- as anyone who has the link will be capable of registering for your event at the discounted/free price. As described above, it's best to process all orders internally and manually.

To duplicate an event page

  • Log in to the Nonprofit Admin Portal dashboard and click the “Event Ticketing” link in the left-hand navigation bar.
  • Select the event you would like to duplicate. Be sure to look within the “Upcoming” tab of current Event Ticketing pages. If needed, use the search tool to pull up results only within that tab. Search results will include the desired term, whether it is all or part of a word or phrase in the event name or slug.
  • Click the “Duplicate” button to the right of the fundraising page link.

To update the ticket prices

  • On the duplicate event page, click on "Ticket Builder" in the menu.
  • Review and replace the ticket prices by setting discounted rates or, to make one free, leaving the price field blank.
