Charitable giving should feel good… and be easy for donors to manage after the fact. It's what nonprofit fundraising platforms are meant to accomplish. That management aspect is the raison d'ȇtre of the Give Lively User Portal – an important and secure online feature of the Give Lively fundraising platform for nonprofits – similar to donor portals on other platforms.

The Give Lively User Portal is for anyone who has contributed to a nonprofit through digital fundraising technology powered by Give Lively. Whether someone has made a one-time gift, set up a recurring payment, contributed through Charity Navigator’s GIving Basket (powered by Give Lively), purchased an event ticket or launched a Peer-to-Peer Fundraising page, the portal is the single place to see, sort and steward that user's efforts.

Here's a tour of what the Give Lively User Portal allows donors and fundraisers to do.

How to view and control recurring donations

Recurring donations are vital to nonprofits, especially for long-term planning; nonprofits take time and care to build programs when they know they can count on regular donations. The Give Lively User Portal gives donors some control over these ongoing gifts.

Where to view recurring donations in the User Portal? Select the "Recurring Payments” link in the left-hand navigation.

In this section, there are four tabs:

  • Active – recurring donations that will be processed on the "Next charge" date shown on each item
  • Paused – donations that can't be processed either because they have been paused by the donor or because a nonprofit is not in good standing with federal and/or state authorities
  • Disconnected – details are unavailable because the nonprofit decoupled the payment processor
  • Canceled – recurring donations that have been discontinued and will not be processed

In all cases, each recurring donation line shows the total amount, the payment method (with its expiration date, if relevant), when the recurring donation started and when the next charge will hit (if applicable).

How to review the history of a recurring payment

If a donor has made multiple payments for any given recurring gift, this feature pulls up the full list of completed transactions.

Where to view a recurring payment history in the User Portal? Click "View History” on a particular recurring payment to see a full list.

How to manage a recurring payment

Donors are able to view and make changes to their recurring payments. They can:

If a recurring payment benefits more than one nonprofit and/or includes a voluntary tip to Give Lively, the three dots to the right of each beneficiary nonprofit and the tip let donors cancel just that item without affecting any of the others.

Where to manage recurring payments in the User Portal? Click the “Manage” button for any recurring payment.

Helpful note: Editing the payment method is currently possible with credit/debit, ACH/bank transfer and digital wallet payments processed by Stripe. PayPal recurring donations can be canceled but not edited.

How to view and sort payment history

How to see three years of donation history

Donors might not have kept track of their generosity, but the Give Lively User Portal has a record of every donation made through Give Lively technology over the last three years. Payments are listed by date and can be sorted by year.

Where to see payment history in the User Portal? Select the "Payment History” link in the left-hand navigation.

How to view receipts anytime

For donors who misplace a record of their generosity, every payment listed in the history is associated with information shown on the original receipt. This includes the date and time the payment was processed, the donor’s name and email address, the payment status, an itemized breakdown of what the payment covered, the beneficiary nonprofit and its EIN, the donation amount, payment method and the total paid.

Where to view receipts in the User Portal? Click the "View Receipt” button on the same line as the payment shown in the history.

Helpful note: Receipts also capture extra details that might matter at tax time such as covered fees, refund information (when applicable), voluntary tips to Give Lively and a clearly labeled "Tax Deduction" total that factors out non-tax-exempt items, such as portions of some tickets and all tips to Give Lively. At this time, receipts can be printed but not downloaded.

Where to find an annual donation summary

When tax season rolls around, the Give Lively User Portal makes things painless. Give Lively creates an annual summary of the tax-deductible payments a donor made to nonprofits through the Give Lively fundraising platform – no need to dig through email folders for individual receipts.

Where to see the annual donation summary in the User Portal? Look for the "Now Available: Your [year] Tax Summary" call-out both on the main landing page and at the top of the Payment History page.

How to manage Peer-to-Peer Fundraising pages

The Give Lively User Portal doubles as a fundraiser command center for anyone who has rallied friends and family to support a cause on behalf of a Give Lively member nonprofit. Peer-to-peer and team fundraisers have direct access to their fundraising pages and donor data.

Where to find Peer-to-Peer Fundraising pages through the User Portal? Follow the "Fundraising Pages” link in the left-hand navigation and choose a page to manage.

From links at the top of a selected fundraising page, users have the option to:

  • view the fundraising page
  • edit the fundraising page’s name, personal note, fundraising goal and images
  • review a searchable, sortable and exportable donor list of everyone who has contributed through that specific page.

How to reallocate unfulfillable donations

Anyone who has given through Charity Navigator's Giving Basket (which is powered by Give Lively) may one day receive an email notice that one of the donations can't be fulfilled as originally directed. This happens when state and/or federal law has designated a particular beneficiary nonprofit as not eligible to receive donations. Unfortunately, a refund to the donor is not a legally permitted remedy.

The Give Lively User Portal allows donors to redirect the committed funds to another nonprofit from a database of more than 60,000 eligible organizations – all Give Lively members or nonprofits that have previously received donations through the Giving Basket – or choose from a curated selection.

Where to reallocate unfulfillable donations in the User Portal? Click the "Donation Reallocation" link in the left-hand navigation.

Helpful note: There are no additional transaction fees for reallocations. Donors have 30 days from the date of the email notice to act; after that, the funds are re-granted to an eligible nonprofit selected by the Give Lively Foundation.

How to access the User Portal

Secure access to the portal is only possible using a working email address that was submitted at the time of a donation or creation of a fundraising page.

How to get in to the Give Live User Portal

There are several ways in to the User Portal:

  • Go to secure.givelively.org and log in.
  • Use the "Password-Free Login” tool on secure.givelively.org, which emails a one-time code that expires in 30 minutes.
  • Follow the link at the bottom of any email receipt from Give Lively confirming a donation.
  • Jump in from the Nonprofit Admin Portal (only for Give Lively member nonprofit admins).

How to set up an account

If you do not have one, set up an account by clicking the "Donated with us before? Create an account" link near the bottom of secure.givelively.org. Enter the email address used when donating and then follow the instructions to set a password and confirm the email address.

How to manage User Portal account details

Once users are logged in, they can view and edit account details:

  • View and update the name, email address and password associated with the account.
  • Set the local timezone, which is especially useful for keeping receipt timestamps accurate; otherwise the default time on receipts is UTC.

Where to manage User Portal account details? Follow the "General Information" link in the left-hand navigation.

Updates are protected by password. Changes to the email address also trigger a confirmation link to the new address, and – as a security measure – an alert to the old one.

Like a donor portal, the Give Lively User Portal is a hub for all giving management

From updating an email to reallocating a donation to thanking every supporter who backed a fundraiser, the Give Lively User Portal pulls giving into a single, secure place.
